Manage Sort Codes on Markups
In Ediphi, Markups support Sort Codes, which unlock critical integrations and reduce confusion in both import and export workflows. Sort Codes on Markups means accurate mapping, better precision with Markup Templates, and cleaner data.

How to Add or Edit Sort Codes on a Markup
- Open any estimate you would like to work on.
- Click on the Markups tab in the side panel.
- Right-click on a markup line.
- Select Edit Sort Codes from the dropdown menu.
- In the modal that appears, set or search for the appropriate sort code values:
- UF1/UF2/UF3 values are dependent:
- Setting UF2 will automatically set UF1.
- Setting UF3 will automatically set UF2 and UF1.
- Clearing UF1 will also clear UF2 and UF3.
- MF1/MF2/MF3 values are dependent:
- Setting MF2 will automatically set MF1.
- Setting MF3 will automatically set MF2 and MF1.
- Clearing MF1 will also clear MF2 and MF3.
- Bid Package and Custom Sort Codes are independent values.
- UF1/UF2/UF3 values are dependent:
- Click Save. Your sort code selections will now be saved to that specific markup line.
Pro Tip: You can freely search values using the in-modal search bar.
Why Sort Codes on Markups Matter
Ability to Map Sort Codes
- If you work without Sort Codes on Markups, this creates a few mapping problems:
- Difficult to link Markups to imported data or external systems.
- Downstream systems (e.g., accounting, project management) received unstructured or ambiguous Markups—users couldn’t easily tell what each markup was for (e.g., taxes, allowances, contingencies).
- When working with Sort Codes on Markups, users can tag each markup with sort code identifiers such as:
- MasterFormat (MF1, MF2, etc.)
- Uniformat (UF1, UF2, etc.)
- Bid Package
- Custom Codes
Markup Templates Preserve Sort Codes
- When saving a list of markups in an estimate as a Markup Template, the sort codes are saved with the markups.
- When that Markup Template is applied to a new estimate:
- The default sort codes appear on the new project’s markup list.
- Users can freely edit those sort codes without affecting the original estimate or the source template.
- This gives teams a consistent starting point while allowing flexibility per project.
Supports Bi-Directional Integration
- Enables import mapping when pulling markups from estimating systems or templates.
- Ensures clean data exports to downstream systems like:
- Accounting software
- Project management tools
