How Value Management Decisions are Filtered in Formulas
In Ediphi, when working with Quantity Formulas in your project, it’s important to understand how VM Decisions are handled in specific instances. The following formula values are designed to exclude other unaccepted VM Decisions:
Within VM Detailed Summary
When working within an unaccepted VM Decision's line items, formulas used will only pull values from the items assigned to that specific VM Decision. This ensures accurate and isolated calculations when analyzing each VM Decision individually. Keep in mind that any Sort Codes or Category values will show all estimate line items plus any accepted VM Decision items, whereas viewing a specific unaccepted VM Decision's lines will only show the items explicitly assigned to it.

- Sort Codes
- Quantity
- Total Cost
- All LMSEO Values (Labor total, Materials total, etc.)
Pro Tip: If you're using a VM Decision to pull in line items based on Category or Sort Codes values, accepting that VM Decision into the Base Bid can cause unintended cost changes. This happens because the formula recalculates using the newly added line items as part of its input, creating a circular dependency where the Base Bid affects the formula and the formula affects the Base Bid.
For example, if you create a VM Decision that pulls all Concrete Sort Code line items and accept it into the Base Bid, those new items become part of the Concrete Sort Code total, which changes the values of all other Concrete line items that were already in the Base Bid.
Within VM Markups
When working within a VM Decision, formulas used in Markups will only pull values from the items assigned to that specific VM Decision. This ensures accurate and isolated calculations when analyzing each VM Decision individually. Keep in mind that the Base Bid shows all estimate line items plus any accepted VM Decision items, whereas viewing a specific VM Decision in Value Management will only show the items explicitly assigned to it.
