Right-Click Options

In Ediphi, right-clicking on a line item in the Detailed Summary, Line Items, and Markups tabs opens a context menu with a set of powerful actions. These options allow you to audit changes, insert or modify line items, manage pricing, and more, all without leaving the estimate module.

Right-click options are available on:

  • A single selected line item
  • Multiple selected line items

Note: The options available when right-clicking on a line item will vary based on the source (UPC vs. Custom), the estimate's status (e.g., Locked), and whether single or multiple items are selected. While you can multi-select line items and right-click to apply actions to all at once, doing so limits the available options compared to a single-item selection

Show Audit Trail

The Audit Trail gives you a complete log of every action and change made to a specific line item in an estimate throughout the life of the project. This includes the initial creation of the line item, any edits to values or fields, and any coding or group assignments that were applied.

To access the Audit Trail:

  1. Right-Click on a line item and choose Show Audit Trail

The Audit Trail panel will open and display a chronological record of all activity. For example, you might see entries like:

  • Cost changed to $0
  • Quantity changed from 0 to 4,000

This is particularly useful for tracking down when and why a value was changed.

Pro Tip: The Audit Trail and Historical Pricing are the two right-click features you'll likely use most often. The Audit Trail is great for understanding what happened to a line item internally, while Historical Pricing helps you benchmark costs across projects.

Show Dependents

Ediphi allows line item quantities to be linked via dynamic formulas, so dependent items update automatically.

To see if a line item has dependents assigned to it:

  1. Right-Click on the line item
    • If there are existing dependents assigned to the line item, you will see a "Show Dependents" option in the drop-down list
  1. Click Show Dependents

A pop-up window will appear presenting all the line items that utilize the quantity of this particular line item in a formula.

Note: If you try to delete a line item that has dependents, Ediphi will display a message listing all dependent line items and warn you that deleting the line item will break any formulas that rely on its quantity. You can choose to proceed by clicking Confirm.

For more on dependent line items, see our article Line Item Dependency.

Edit Quantity Formula

The edit Quantity Formula action when right-clicking on a line item is used to calculate values in your estimate.

To create or edit an existing Quantity Formula:

  1. Right-click and choose Edit Quantity Formula

These formulas can draw from a variety of sources, including variables found in other parts of your estimate such as:

  • Line Items
  • Rooms
  • Units
  • Sort Codes, etc

For more on Quantity Formulas, see our Quantity Formula article.

Note: When viewing your estimate under the Quantity column, any “potion” icons you see represent an existing Quantity Formula.

Clear Quantity Formula

The Clear Quantity Formula option allows you to fully remove a formula from the line item's quantity.

To do so:

  1. Right-click on the cell where the formula is located (or the line item where this formula is located)
  2. Select Clear Quantity Formula

Convert To Assembly

Right-clicking and selecting Convert to Assembly enables you to bundle related components into a single package, streamlining commonly used items. This can be created in either the Line Items or Detailed Summary tabs.

To turn a line item to an assembly:

  1. Right-click and choose Convert to Assembly

For more on Assemblies, see our article, Using Assemblies.

Edit Line Item

The Edit Line Item option opens a modal that allows you to modify the sorting structure and classification details of any line item. This is similar to the modal you see when duplicating a line item.

To edit a line item:

  1. Right-click on the line item and select Edit Line Item

The edit modal will appear, allowing you to update:

  • Sort fields
  • QTY & Unit Costs

This option is especially useful when you need to reclassify a line item or update its coding without changing any of its cost or quantity values.

Pro Tip: To modify several line items at once, highlight them all, right-click, and choose Edit Line Item. The changes will apply to every selected line item.

Insert Custom Line Item

If you need to add a line item that does not exist in the UPC database, you can use Insert Custom Line Item to create a freeform entry directly in your estimate.

To insert a custom line item:

  1. Right-click on an existing line item and select Insert Custom Line Item
  2. The new line will be inserted in the same location of the selected line item
    • The custom line item will automatically inherit the coding structure of the line item it was inserted next to including Sort Field, Use Group and Bid Package.
  1. Once inserted, you can fill in:
  • Description
  • Quantity
  • Unit of Measure
  • Unit Cost
  • Use Group assignment (can be changed or removed)

Pro Tip: Custom line items have no linkage back to the UPC database. You can visually identify them by enabling the Source Column, which will distinguish custom items from those tied to the UPC.

Duplicate Line Item

The Duplicate Line Item option creates an exact copy of the selected line item. This is useful when you need a similar item with slightly different coding, quantities, or descriptions without having to search for or re-enter the item from scratch.

To duplicate a line item:

  1. Right-click on the line item and select Duplicate Line Item
  2. A modal will appear where you can optionally update the coding (Sort Fields, Use Group, etc.) before the copy is created
  3. Click Duplicate to confirm

The duplicated item will appear in the estimate labeled as "Copy" so you can visually identify it. From there, you can update the description, quantities, and any other fields as needed.

Note: If the original line item is linked to the UPC database, the duplicate will maintain that link — which is relevant when reviewing Historical Pricing.

Delete Line Item

The Delete Line Item option permanently removes the selected line item(s) from the estimate. A confirmation modal will appear before the deletion is processed.

To delete a line item:

  1. Right-click on the line item you want to remove
    1. For multiple line items, highlight the desired line items then right-click
  2. Select Delete Line Item
  3. Confirm the deletion in the pop-up modal by clicking Confirm

Export Line Item

The Export Line Item option allows you to duplicate line item(s) from the current estimate into another estimate. This is useful when you want to reuse specific line items across different projects without duplicating manual data entry.

To export a line item(s):

  1. Right-click on the line item or multiple line items and select Export Line Item
  2. Follow the prompts to select the target project and estimate

For more on exporting line items, see our Exporting Line Items article.

Create VM Decision

Value Management (VM) Decisions (formerly known as Alternates) is a feature in Ediphi that provides flexibility side by side with an estimate by allowing users to explore different choices for materials, methods, or components.

By using the right-click function, you can Create VM Decision directly from the Base Bid.

After adding line items to your Base Bid:

  1. Right-click on the line item(s) and select Create VM Decision from Line Items
  2. The New VM Decision modal will appear and once you have everything filled out, click on Create VM Decision

For more on Value Management, see our Value Management article.

Historical Pricing

Historical Pricing is one of the most powerful right-click tools available. It gives estimators a fast, data-driven way to validate unit costs by pulling in real pricing data from past projects without ever leaving the current estimate.

To access Historical Pricing:

  1. Right-click on a line item and select Historical Pricing

The modal will open and display information such as:

    • The line item’s relevance score (Good, Neutral, or Weak match)
    • Escalated and original unit cost
    • Project name, region, design stage, and more

By default, results are filtered to your specific region. You can clear the region filter to see historical usage across your entire organization, which is helpful for identifying pricing deviations or benchmarking your current costs against similar past projects.

Note: Historical Pricing is only available for line items that are linked back to the UPC database. Custom line items will not have historical pricing data.

For a more in depth understanding of Historical Pricing, see our Historical Pricing article.

The Add To My UPC action allows non-admin users the ability to save a custom line item(s) to their personal My UPC list. This feature is helpful for keeping track of customized line items that can be reused in future estimates.

Here’s how to Add To My UPC:

  1. Right-click on the custom line item
  2. Choose Add To My UPC
  3. The chosen line item(s) will now be available in your My UPC list.

For more information on My UPC, see UPC.

The Unlink from UPC Product action in Ediphi allows you to separate a product from the central Unit Price Catalog (UPC) so you can manage its pricing independently.

Here’s how to unlink a UPC Product:

  1. In your Estimate, right-click on the product line item
  2. Choose Duplicate Line Item to create a copy
  3. Right-click on the duplicated item and select Unlink from UPC Product

After unlinking, the product's source becomes Custom, and any changes you make to it won’t impact the original UPC product or be affected by it.

Swap UPC Product

Swap UPC Product product lets you replace a custom product in your estimate with a standardized UPC product.

Here's how you can do it:

  1. Right-click on the product line item in your estimate
  2. Select Swap UPC Product
  3. A pop-up will appear where you can choose the UPC product you want to use as a replacement

Once swapped, the new UPC product will replace the original, and the source will update from “Custom” to “UPC.” This ensures your estimate uses standardized UPC data.

Update All Similar Line Items

The Update All Similar Line Items option allows you to adjust the pricing or other details for multiple line items that share similar attributes within Ediphi. This process can be done in bulk, saving time and ensuring consistency across an estimate.

To update all similar line items:

  1. Right-click on one of the child line items you’d like to update
  2. From the dropdown menu, select Update All Similar Line Items
  3. In the modal that appears, pick the line items you want to update
  4. Enter the new values for the selected fields (like Unit Cost or LMSEO) on the right-hand side
  5. Click Save to apply your changes

Reset To Default UPC Pricing

Reset To Default UPC Pricing reverts a line item’s unit cost back to their original value in the UPC.

To reset a line item to it’s default UPC pricing:

  1. Right-click on the line item and select Reset To Default UPC Pricing

This is useful if custom pricing adjustments have been made and you want to restore the standard, approved pricing.
